2 Chronicles chapter 26 verses 3-5 (NIV)
Uzziah was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-two years. His mother’s name was Jekoliah; she was from Jerusalem. ⁴ He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father Amaziah had done. He sought God during the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God. As long as he sought the LORD, God gave him success.
Uzziah reigneddor a decent amount of time. He followed the good example of his father, and he also had a wise and godly counsellor, who we are told, instructed him in the fear of the Lord. As long as he sought the LORD, putting into practice what he had been taught, God gave him success. But when he became proud and lost the feat of the LORD, things went awry for him.
A lesson for us then to remember to properly understand what it means to fear the Lord in the proper sense, but also to put into practice all that we have been taught, and to do so diligently without neglect.
Dear Lord,
This is indeed a wise lesson. Help me not to make the same mistake as Uzziah and never become proud or neglect to seek you. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
