Exodus Chapter 39: Verses 42-43 (NLT version)
So the people of Israel followed all of the LORD’s instructions to Moses. Then Moses inspected all their work. When He found that it had all been done as the LORD had commanded them, he blessed them.
Mark Chapter 9: Verses 2-7 (NLT Version)
Six days later Jesus took Peter, James and John, and led them up to a high mountain to be alone. As the men watched, Jesus’ appearance became transformed , and his clothes became dazzling white, far whiter than any earthly bleach could ever make them. Then Moses and Elijah appeared and began talking to Jesus.
Peter exclaimed, “Rabbi, it’s wonderful for us to be here! Let’s make three shelters as memorials – one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” He said this because He didn’t really know what to say, for they were all terrified.
Then a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my dearly loved son. Listen to him.”
Sometimes we get a bit overwhelmed thinking about what God might require of us. But both of these readings, one in the Old Testament, and one in the New, teach me one thing. When God speaks He wants us to listen to Him, and do what He asks. If we do that, He is able to bless us. He doesn’t want memorials or sacrifices, just obedience. And that’s not complicated!
Dear Lord,
Thank You that when we take the time to come aside with You, like Peter, James and John, You can speak to us. Help me to listen to You, but more importantly, to be obedient.
I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
