Psalm 26 verses 2-3 (NIV)
Test me, LORD, and try me,
examine my heart and my mind;
for I have always been mindful of your unfailing love
and have lived in reliance on your faithfulness.
Psalm 26 verse 12 (NIV)
My feet stand on level ground;
in the great congregation I will praise the LORD.
Many of us will know what an amazing help it can be to have someone in our life that we can rely on for help and support when we need it, but we may also know what its like to rely on someone to do something for us and then be let down. David did. He was let down more than once by people he had believed he could trust. He was even betrayed by members of his own family. And he had also let others down too. But he reminds us that we can totally rely on God’s love and faithfulness towards us. He tells us that God’s love is unfailing, and that’s why its totally reliable. No conditions. If we have wandered from God, we know that if we turn ourselves around, we can rely on Him to set us on the right path once more.
And if we do that, our past, our disappointments and even our achievements are not what matter in God’s eyes. The cross brings us all on to level ground as followers of God. It means that we can all join together in praise and worship.
Dear Lord,
Help me to be like David and always be mindful of Your unfailing love and grace towards me and never to take it for granted. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
