26 January 2026 – What have I learned today?

Job chapter 1 verses 20 – 22 (NIV)

At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said:  “Naked I came from my mother’s womb,

   and naked I will depart.

  The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away;

   may the name of the LORD be praised.” In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.

Job had just had the most devastating news. He tore his robe and shaved his head in a recognised sign of mourning. But the next thing he did was fall to the ground in worship. We are told that he never blamed God for what happened.

How often do we draw back from God when we are going through tough times? Or say that we can’t enter in to worshipping God because it’s too hard.

This wasn’t happy clappy praise from Job. This was deep worship from the depths of a broken heart. That example is there for a purpose. If Job felt that God was worthy of his worship, no matter what, why should we assume that God expects no less from us?

Dear Lord,

Thank You for the example set by Job. May I never use any difficulties or trials as an excuse not to give You the worship that is Your due. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
