Psalm 78: Verses 7-8 (NLT)
So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying his commands. Then they will not be like their ancestors— stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful, refusing to give their hearts to God.
As it grows, each new generation sets its sights on the future and what might lie ahead. The psalmist reminds us here that we should be setting our hope on God Himself. As the younger generations look forward, there are also times when its good to look back and see what God has done for us.
It’s also easy for any generation to get caught up with plans and schemes and forget that it is God who directs our steps. Today marks three years since I retired. It was at the height of the pandemic, so a lot of the hopes and plans that I had in the year leading up to retirement were put on hold. But I can look back today and am grateful for God’s hand of blessing over the last three years, and further. As I give thanks, I hope that God’s impact on my life will have a knock-on effect on others, including the young people who cross my path.
Dear Lord,
I am today feeling very blessed and content as I give thanks for Your hand on these initial years of retirement. May I never forget all Your goodness, or take for granted all that You have done for me. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
