27 December 2023 – What have I learned today?

Revelation Chapter 19: Verses 1-2 (NLT)

After this, I heard what sounded like a vast crowd in heaven shouting,

“Praise the Lord!
Salvation and glory and power belong to our God.
His judgments are true and just.
He has punished the great prostitute
who corrupted the earth with her immorality.
He has avenged the murder of his servants.”

The book of Revelation is not the easiest to understand as it covers many layers of history as well as what is still to come. These two verses confirm to us that no matter how awful things are in the world, God knows what is going on, and at the right time – His time, He will put everything right. At the time of writing these verses the first reference in this chapter was the fall of the roman empire, but in the fulness of time it will apply to modern day corruption as it exists right across the world. I know that God’s judgements are true and just, but I confess that I sometimes wonder when He will act on the atrocities that we are seeing acted out o our screens right now.

However, I have known God’s gracious hand on my life such that I know I can trust His judgement and timing even when I don’t understand it. He is God, I am not. So, as we head into another year, I will echo the sentiments of that vast crowd in heaven and say, salvation and glory and power belong to our God, and I will take comfort in that and carry it with me into the year ahead.

Dear Lord,

I am grateful that Your word and Your promises can always be trusted, even when I don’t always understand. May I be like Mary and treasure them in my heart, no matter what crosses my path in the year ahead. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
