27 February 2026 – What have I learned today?

Psalm 27 verses 4-6 (NIV)

One thing I ask from the LORD,

   this only do I seek:

that I may dwell in the house of the LORD

   all the days of my life,

to gaze on the beauty of the LORD

   and to seek him in his temple.

For in the day of trouble

   he will keep me safe in his dwelling;

he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent

   and set me high upon a rock. Then my head will be exalted

   above the enemies who surround me;

at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy;

   I will sing and make music to the LORD.

This psalm reminded me today of the reason we should go to God’s House. It is good and right to join in fellowship with like minded believers. The Bible tells us to. But the most important reason, as this psalm tells us, is to seek God, and be in a deep place of communion with Him, so close in fact that it would be as though we could physically gaze on His beauty.

The psalm also reminds me that there are times when it is hard for us to go to God’s house and enter into the praise and worship that is His due. That’s when our praise is a true sacrifice. And we are expected to make it. I am reminded that I should come to God’s House with the right attitude in my heart.

Dear Lord,

Help me to come to Your house with a right attitude of praise and worship in my heart, knowing that if I seek You with my whole heart I will surely find You. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
