27 January 2024 – What have I learned today?

Job Chapter 5: Verses 9-10 (NIV-UK)

‘But if I were you, I would appeal to God;
    I would lay my cause before him.
He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed,
    miracles that cannot be counted.’

John Chapter 6: Verse 68 (NIV – UK)

Simon Peter answered him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.’

The advice that Job received from his friends was not always wise, but this little bit certainly is. What was going on in Job’s life was too big for his friends to understand, or really do anything to help, so where else could he go? Everything else seemed to be crashing down around him, people were offering him their opinion, it must have seemed so overwhelming. Perhaps without even realising it, Job’s friend Eliphaz had offered him the best advice of all – Take the matter to God. Nothing is to hard for Him.

Sometimes we may also find ourselves in a situation where we don’t know what to do, or where to turn. People may offer us counsel and advice, others as recorded in John might think that keeping our faith in God is of no benefit. But both Peter and Eliphaz were right. God knows everything and Jesus gives us the gift of eternal life. God will show us how to handle our situation if we ask Him, and if He chooses, He can intervene on our behalf. His ear is always ready to listen, day or night.

Dear Lord,

When things seem too much for me to deal with and I don’t know what to do, help me to remember that nothing is too difficult for You. I pray in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
