27 September 2025 – What have I learned today?

Ephesians chapter 5 verse 10 (NIV)

“and find out what pleases the Lord.”

Ephesians chapter 5 verse 21(NIV)

“Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.”

We all like to do things our own way sometimes. That can be okay up to a point on some things, but it can also make us quite selfish. I live on my own and I do find it’s something I need to guard against. After all, I can eat whatever I want to, whenever I want to, and spend my time as I choose. But Paul teaches us the remedy for this. All of us, whether we live alone or not, should find out what pleases the Lord first of all. If we do that then we won’t go wrong.

Secondly, we must make ourselves accountable for our actions. That means that there will be times when we must submit to others, not just for their benefit, but because of Jesus’ own example. We read how after he was left behind in Jerusalem as a boy, He went back home with His parents and was obedient to them. Even with all of rheir human frailties. It is right then for us to do the same and follow Christ’s example.

Dear Lord,

In all I seek to do, may I always be seeking to please You, even if that means doing something I might not want to do. Thank You, Lord Jesus for Your example. You humbled Yourself in obedience, even to death on a cross. I therefore should never seek to put myself first. Help me to be both humble and accountable. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
