28 December 2025 – What have I learned today?

Psalm 148 verse 14 (NIV)

And he has raised up for his people a horn,

the praise of all his faithful servants,

of Israel, the people close to his heart.  Praise the LORD.

The horn is a common biblical metaphor for strength and power. Horns also symbolise authority and kingship. In addition to representing human power, horns are also associated with divine protection and salvation.

Throughout the Bible, the symbolism of horns is multifaceted, encompassing themes of strength, authority, protection, and messianic hope. Whether representing the power of earthly kings or the divine salvation offered through Christ, horns serve as a potent symbol of God’s sovereignty and the fulfillment of His promises.

Taking these principles into account I am struck by the reason given in this psalm as to why God raises a horn. He does so for the people close to His heart. That’s us, and that’s the reason that Jesus came. Let’s not forget that this Christmas season

Dear Lord,

Thank You for reminding me that this is why Jesus came and why we celebrate Christmas. You hold us close to Your heart. Thank You. Amen.
