Romans chapter 12 verses 22-23 (NIV)
Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off. And if they do not persist in unbelief, they will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.
Romans chapter 2 verse 4 (NIV) Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?
In the Bible, kindness is a deep, active love and moral goodness that comes from God, rather than just being polite or nice. It is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, shown through mercy, forgiveness, and meeting the real needs of others, even when they do not deserve it. Its not just sickly sweet. Sincere kindness can make a massive difference to someone’s life.
After all, we didn’t deserve the kindness of God that drew us to Him.
And as it is a fruit of the Spirit, is it not something that we, as Jesus’ followers, should be seeking to cultivate? If we extend kindness and mercy to someone, who in the eyes of everyone else does not deserve it, we might be extending the touch of God to their lives.
Dear Lord,
How often I have felt the touch of kindness on my life. I am truly blessed. Help me extend that kindness to others so that they might see Your hand on my life and on theirs. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
