28 March 2025  – What have I learned today?

Numbers chapter 23 verses 27-28 (NIV)

Then Balak said to Balaam, “Come, let me take you to another place. Perhaps it will please God to let you curse them for me from there.” And Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor, overlooking the wasteland.

Balak had asked Balaam to curse God’s people twice before this occasion. Each time Balaam had told him that he could only speak what God told him. Undeterred, Balak clearly thought it was worth another try, perhaps seeing things from a different view. But God’s wlll didn’t change with the view.

That got me thinking how do we react when we don’t get the answer from God that we were expecting? Do we couch our request in a different way, or maybe ask someone else for their opinion? We say that God always answers prayer, but we may not always like the answer. God’s ways are higher than ours and He can see the bigger picture. We need to be gracious and accept that God has our best interests in mind, and learn to put our disappointment aside and see what better things God has planned for us.

Dear Lord,

I am grateful that Your plans for me are better than mine. Help me to keep that in mind, particularly in seasons where I may be disappointed that our plans are totally opposite, and make sure I follow Yours. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
