29 March 2023-What have I learned today?

Luke Chapter 7: Verses 37-38 (NLT Translation)

When a certain immoral woman from that city heard he was eating there, she brought a beautiful alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume. Then she knelt behind him at his feet, weeping. Her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them off with her hair. Then she kept kissing his feet and putting perfume on them.

Luke Chapter 7: Verses 47-48 (NLT translation)

“I tell you, her sins—and they are many—have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.”  Then Jesus said to the woman, “Your sins are forgiven.”

This woman was used to being talked about. People thought they knew all about her. “Good” women in the town would avoid her company. But it would have taken a lot of courage for her to go to the house of a Pharisee. She was determined to meet Jesus and was not going to let anything put her off.

I even wonder what sort of reception she received when she turned up at the door and asked to come in. But her perseverance paid off. She got straight to Jesus and worshipped Him in the only way she knew how. And Jesus publicly forgave her past and restored her place in society.

How easily am I put off from following Jesus? Am I too worried about what people will think of me, or do I seek to spend time with Him no matter what? Jesus has forgiven us much. We shouldn’t deny Him our worship and gratitude because of what people might think of us!

Dear Lord,

Thank You that when we seek You out, You never turn us away, no matter what we’ve experienced, or done, in our past. Help me also never to judge anyone who wants to follow You, and never put them off from doing so. I ask in Your Name and for Your Glory. Amen.
