Zepheniah chapter 1 verse 9 (NIV)
“Then I will purify the lips of the peoples,
that all of them may call on the name of the LORD
and serve him shoulder to shoulder.
In modern life it’s easy for some people to think the grass is always greener elsewhere. Sadly, even in Christian circles, eyes can stray away from our own paths and gifts, and we may sometimes get caught up concerning ourselves with what others are doing. That’s not what God wants from us. This verse in Zepheniah reminds us that when God cleanses us, we then are on level footing with all other believers. We are then meant to join together in calling on the Lord and serve Him, as the verse puts it, serve Him shoulder to shoulder. But that means supporting one another and encouraging each other to use the gifts that God has blessed each of us with. We know that God can command a blessing when believers dwell in unity. (Psalm 133 verses 1-3) What greater blessing could there be than the Lord coming down in revival power and drawing lives back to Himself. Is that surely worth the effort of standing shoulder to shoulder with other believers? I think so.
Dear Lord,
If we stand shoulder to shoulder with others then that means we are all facing in the same direction, and not looking around at others. Help me to look ahead and keep my focus on Jesus. I ask in His Name and for Your Glory. Amen.
