3 April 2024 – What have I learned today?

Luke Chapter 10: Verses 1-2 (NIV-UK)

After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.

Luke Chapter 10: Verse 17 (NIV-UK)

The seventy-two returned with joy and said, ‘Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.’

I always forget that there were others who closely followed Jesus during His ministry. We know nothing about them really, but just because they are not at the front and centre in the story, doesn’t mean to say that Jesus didn’t have work for them to do. Here we see seventy-two others sent out by Jesus to prepare the way for Him. They went out in obedience and God’s Holy Spirit moved through them.

These verses remind me that Jesus has a plan for each of His followers to spread the good news of the Gospel. We may not specifically have a calling to be in leadership ministry, or even any sort of publicly recognised role, but whatever it is that God requires of us, if we do it in obedience to what He has asked then the Holy Spirit will be able to move through us too. And when we see God’s hand at work, even through us, we too will be filled with joy, and no other recognition is necessary.

Dear Lord,

Thank You that You can move through whoever You chose as long as we are obedient. And it’s truly a blessing that fills us with joy when we see Your hand at work. Help me to be aa obedient as those seventy-two people. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
