Luke chapter 9 verses 44-45(NIV)
“Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you: The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.” But they did not understand what this meant. It was hidden from them, so that they did not grasp it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.
Philippians chapter 4 verse 6 (NIV)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Here we read that Jesus asked the disciples to listen carefully to what He had to tell them. But they didn’t understand what He told them; they didn’t grasp it. What struck me here was the fact that we read that they were afraid to ask Him about it. Perhaps they were scared to hear what that might mean for them, or maybe the thought of what would happen to Jesus was just too horrible to contemplate. I can understand that.
But I know we are also told in Philippians to be anxious for nothing, and pray in every situation. Its okay to ask God about things we don’t understand. Even if God gives us an answer that isnt the one we hoped for, we will be given the strength and courage to walk in the circumstances. We should never allow our fears to keep us from approaching the Lord, and neither should we bury our heads in the sand. We need to remember that what God told Paul. (But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 2 corinthians chapter 12 verse 9.)
Dear Lord,
I’m so grateful that we never need to be afraid to come and ask You about things we don’t understand. Your word reminds us that because of Jesus, we can boldly approach the throne. Thank You for Your grace. Amen.
