Daniel Chapter 11: Verses 32-35 (NIV)
With flattery he will corrupt those who have violated the covenant, but the people who know their God will firmly resist him. “Those who are wise will instruct many, though for a time they will fall by the sword or be burned or captured or plundered. When they fall, they will receive a little help, and many who are not sincere will join them. Some of the wise will stumble, so that they may be refined, purified and made spotless until the time of the end, for it will still come at the appointed time.
James Chapter 1: Verse 5 (NIV)
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
Yet another reminder of how up-to-date and relevant the Bible is. Daniel is informed that many who turn their back on the promises of God will find themselves being admired and even flattered for the way that they live, and we see that more than ever with the rise of so called “social media influencers.”
It is up to those who truly seek to know God to stand firm against the tide of popular opinion and the rise of secularism. There may even be those who appear to agree with our beliefs and teaching, but we read that they will not all be sincere. We are also reminded in these verses that we are not immune to stumbling or trials, but that it is to be treated as a time of refining and purifying.
That’s why its so important for us to say as close to God as we can. If we remain under the shadow and shelter of His wings we will not be easily deceived or injured.
Dear Lord,
I see how important it is that we as Your people need to be spiritually wise in these days and James reminds us that we can ask You to make us so. I need to know that wisdom so that I can stand firm and glorify Your Name, and not be caught out. Thank You that You always give generously without finding fault. Amen.
