Matthew chapter 22 verses 34-36 (NIV)
Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Matthew chapter 22 verse 46 (NIV)
No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions.
Here we see that the Pharisees thought that they were better than the Sadducees. They thought that they could succeed where the Sadducees had failed; that they could catch Jesus out. But they were wrong. So they all gave up and resorted to other means to get rid of Him.
Sadly, because there are many different denominations who share a faith in Jesus. But there have been times when there has been conflict between them, indeed a sense of feeling superior than their brothers and sisters in Christ. We have no reason to consider ourselves better than any other believers. Our focus should always be to ensure our own integrity and to make sure that we don’t damage our own witness for Christ. The best way to do that is to keep our eyes upon Him, and not get caught up in what anyone else is doing. Let the Lord take care of that.
Dear Lord,
Thank You that the safest thing for me to focus on is You. As the old chorus says, “Fix your eyes upon Jesus, look full on His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace. Help me to do that. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
