3 June 2025 – What have I learned today?

2 Samuel chapter 3 verse 36 (NIV)

All the people took note and were pleased; indeed, everything the king did pleased them.

2 Samuel chapter 3 verse 39 (NIV)
And today, though I am the anointed king, I am weak, and these sons of Zeruiah are too strong for me.

These verses are yet another example of the fact people take note of how we behave in difficult circumstances and we don’t have to be like David in a position of authority. If it is known that we are followers of Jesus, we too will be scrutinised by others to see how we react. Will our response be one which reflects well on Jesus, or will we be poor Ambassadors?

David also recognised that he could not undertake his role in his own strength. He needed God’s help. In this acknowledgement, he was still being a great ambassador for God. It isn’t a sign of weakness to admit that we can do nothing in our own strength. It allows us to let people see Jesus working in our lives. After all, it’s Him we want people to see, isn’t it?

Dear Lord,

Help me never to be embarrassed to admit that without You I can do nothing. May people see and recognise You working in my life so that it’s You who receives the glory. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
