Luke chapter 1 verses 21 – 22 (NIV)
Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us, beginning from John’s baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection.”
Later in the following chapter, we see the choice of Judas’ replacement being narrowed down to two. This suggests there were more. People who we know nothing about. People who had been with the disciples and Jesus right from the start. Perhaps they were the balance of the 120 who Jesus sent out. And they were used by the Holy Spirit. Does it matter that we don’t know anything about them? Surely not. They were tools in God’s hands. He knew them intimately. They had to do God’s bidding, and, if they were obedient to do what had for each of them to do, they too would hear, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” In the end that’s really all that matters.
We may never have a role that means what we do is very public. But God has a plan and purpose for each and every one of us. The important thing is that we are obedient in that. It doesn’t matter that most of the world doesn’t even know our name. God does.
Dear Lord,
Help me to remember that I am called to do Your will for MY life. It doesn’t matter whether that’s done in public view or not. But it should be done to glorify You, because You are always watching over my life. Help me to do it with a willing heart, even if no one else is watching. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
