Mark Chapter 12: Verse 12 (NLT Version)

The religious leaders wanted to arrest Jesus because they realized he was telling the story against them – they were the wicked farmers. But they were afraid of the crowd and they went away.

The religious leaders had their own reason for coming to Jesus, and it was not necessarily the best one, but they left Him for a different reason; they were afraid of the crowd. That got me thinking. Whatever our reason for coming to Jesus, I wonder how often we too turn away because we are afraid of what others might think, say or do? The religious leaders missed out because they were concerned about their place in the society of the time, and they were afraid of going against popular opinion.

In this present age and culture, it is also hard for followers of Jesus to go against popular opinion, but we don’t want to turn away from Jesus just because of what other people think.

Dear Lord,

Help me to be bold in following You, even if it goes against popular opinion. I pray in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
