Mark Chapter 12: Verse 13 (NIV-UK)
Later they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus to catch him in his words.
The Pharisees and the Herodians that went to see Jesus had no intention of paying heed to what He said. They had been sent with one purpose; to see if they could catch Him out. Jesus knew full well that this was their intention.
Sometimes people will ask us all manner of questions simply to try and catch us out too. Their intention is nothing to do with what Jesus wants or expects from us. Most folk who do that are not familiar with the truth that the Bible teaches, and therefore hope to make it fit into what they want. That’s why we need to know ourselves what the Bible actually says, and therefore no one will be able to catch us out. The Bible and its teachings is intended to encourage and instruct us. Thus, we need to make the best of the advantage we have of being able to have free access to it, in all of its many forms.
Dear Lord,
Help me to read, digest and act on the words in Your book so that no one can catch me out in what I say. Your word is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
