3 October 2025 – What have I learned today? 

Philippians chapter 4 verses 11-13 (NIV) 

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.  I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
1 Timothy chapter 6 verse 6 (NIV) 

 But godliness with contentment

is great gain. 

Following on from what we read in yesterday’s verse, we see here clearly why Paul taught that we should live up to what we have already attained. Our position in, Christ is not dependent on our physical circumstances. If we do as Paul teaches and draw close to God in every circumstance, then we are given the strength we need to face whatever situation we have to face. Paul learned to be content in every circumstance, and he reiterated the need for contentment when he wrote to Timothy. We see in the existing Western culture that many people seem to be discontent with their lot, and try all sorts of ways to fill the dissatisfaction that comes with discontentment. The answer, Paul tells us, is to draw close to God. 

Dear Lord, 

Thank You for Paul’s example. Help me to follow his lead, and to draw close to You to find the strength I need to face whatever circumstances cross my path. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
