Joshua chapter 17 verses 3 – 5 (NIV)
Now Zelophehad son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Makir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons but only daughters, whose names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah and Tirzah. They went to Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the leaders and said, “The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our relatives.” So Joshua gave them an inheritance along with the brothers of their father, according to the LORD’s command.
The LORD had commanded Moses to give these women an inheritance alongside the rest of their clan. Now some time has passed and the women hold on to that promise, and go to Joshua to ensure that he does what the Lord commanded.
They held on to the promise they were given even although it didn’t come to pass straight away. Maybe Joshua had forgotten it – he had the whole nation to look out for after all, but these women made sure to remind him.
When God speaks to us we must make sure that we hold on to it, and when the door is opened for us, it’s our responsibility to make sure we go through it. We shouldn’t rely on someone else doing it for us.
Dear Lord,
Help me to be completely focused on your will for my life, and to be ready to move when You open the door. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
