Hebrews Chapter 1: Verses 1-3 (NLT)
Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.
I look like my mum, but I would say I have a fair smattering of my dad’s nature. All told, a good mix of both of them in the sense that people who knew them would recognise that likeness in me. Jesus is the representation of God and reflects His character in order to speak to us in a different way to the way God had revealed Himself in the past.
As a Christian we are also expected to reflect the characteristics in our lives. I wonder if His character is as recognisable in me as it should be, or as identifiable as the characteristics of my parents in me. I think people who knew my parents would see the similarities if they met me. However, if people don’t know that I am a Christian, would they be able to tell from my character and behaviour, or would they be surprised once they found out? Food for thought, perhaps?
