Jeremiah chapter 2 verse 8 (NIV)
The priests did not ask,
‘Where is the LORD?’
Those who deal with the law did not know me;
the leaders rebelled against me.
The prophets prophesied by Baal,
following worthless idols.
Three times in chapter one, then once again at the beginning of chapter two, we read that Jeremiah says, “the word of the LORD came to me…” This is in stark contrast to what we read about Israel’s leaders at that time. They didn’t seek God’s will, and they rebelled against Him.
That is a familiar situation for us today in much of the west. Our governments and others in authority don’t seek God’s mind Om matters. Those who do are in the minority. That’s why we must pray for those in the minority, such as those supported by the group Christians in Parliament, so that they can be as bold as Jeremiah and be able to say also, “the word of the LORD came to me.”
On a personal level, we too, who are privileged to sit under anointed teaching of God’s word, need to be bold enough to say also, “the word of the LORD came to me.”
Dear Lord,
Help me to pray for those in authority so that they would be able to hear and respond to Your Word. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
