Psalm 138: verse 3 (NIV Translation)
When I called, you answered me; you greatly emboldened me.
Philippians Chapter 4: Verse 13 (NIV Translation)
I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
Some people are keener to try new things than others. Some folk baulk at the very thought of having to step out of their comfort zone, and I’m sure we are all a little nervous when there are any major changes in our circumstances. I for one don’t mind taking on a new challenge, but its always with butterflies in my tummy and my knees knocking.
God chooses to use those who follow Him to do things for Him, in order to prove to us that He will help us, to test our faith, and to prove to others that He is interested in every area of our lives. If He wants us to do something new, He will always equip us with the strength and the boldness to do it. But we have to take that first step of faith and that’s often what we need to pray for. Peter had to have the faith in Jesus to step out of the boat. He only started to sink when he focussed more on what was going on around Him and took His eyes off Jesus. But even when He did start to sink, Jesus reached out and immediately took hold of Him. (Matthew Chapter 14: verses 22-33)
We are not meant to be self-sufficient, or completely independent with no need for God. We are designed to be God-dependent and trust that He will give us all that we need to deal with the circumstances that cross our paths, even if our knees are knocking and the butterflies are fluttering in our tummies.
Dear Lord,
I am grateful that you embolden even the most timid of Your followers when we ask for Your help. Help me to be willing to do the things You ask, knowing that they may be things that of myself I could never, or would never choose to do, knowing that doing them in Your strength will bring You glory and praise. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
