Matthew chapter 4: verse 1 (NIV)
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
I was really struck by this verse today. Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness. He didn’t go of His own accord. He was led. That means He was exactly where He was supposed to be at that time. It was His Father’s will and part of His plan. And because He was being led by the Holy Spirit, He was strengthened and equipped for the temptations He was to face.
If we allow ourselves to be led by the Holy Spirit, even into difficult trials or wilderness times, then as long as we are being led, we are exactly where God wants us to be, and He will give us what we need to walk in the place that He has led us into.
Our problems arise when we do our own thing and don’t want to be led. Going through a wilderness experience is surely much more difficult if that’s not where we are supposed to be. We might think we know a better way, but we can trust that the Holy Spirit knows exactly what He’s doing, so let’s make it easier on ourselves and let Him do the leading.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for giving us the Holy Spirit as our teacher, comforter, guide and leader. Help me always to trust His leading and to be obedient to it. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
