Matthew chapter 4 verse 1 (NIV)
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
It was the first half of this verse that caught my attention. Jesus was led into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit. It was intended, intentional. He was where He was meant to be – even in the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
Sometimes we are led intentionally into the wilderness too. But we don’t like it, and we sometimes ask God to take us out of the situation. But God doesn’t, because we are exactly where He wants us to be.
Sometimes we wander into the wilderness by ourselves and that’s when we can get ourselves into trouble. In such instances it’s right for us to call out to God for help and direction. But if God has led us that way then we must be obedient and follow the road as He wants us to.
Dear Lord,
I’m grateful that as long as we follow Your leading, You will keep us on the right path, even if it goes in a direction we wouldn’t choose ourselves. Help me to make sure I follow Your lead and stay close to You. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
