Proverbs Chapter 14: Verse 12 (NIV-UK)

There is a way that appears to be right,
but in the end it leads to death.

Isaiah Chapter30: Verse 21 (NIV-UK)

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’

Many years ago, I recall having a conversation with my mum about how standards seemed to be changing, and which in my opinion, didn’t always seem to be for the better. I well remember her opinion, and my subsequent response. She said, “Well, Alison, that’s the way of the world”, to which I replied, “Well that doesn’t always make it right. It doesn’t have to be like that.”

Just because things appear to be right, even by a majority of people, doesn’t mean to say that they are right. There are times when we need to consider as Christians, and as ambassadors for Jesus, if it’s right to go with the flow, or if we need to take a stand. That’s why it’s important for us to stick close to God, and to seek His mind on the matter. We may hear eloquent and perfectly justifiable reasons for a particular course of action, but is it right in the eyes of God? If we are open to be guided by Him, He will make the way plain to us, and He won’t let us take a wrong road, providing we are prepared to listen and act on what He says.

Dear Lord,

I know that as the Bible says, Your ways are higher than my ways, but I also trust that Your ways are right and just. Help me to stay in tune with the way that You want me to go, no matter what anyone else is doing. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
