4 June 2025 – What have I learned today?

Acts chapter 1 verses 21-26 (NIV)

Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us, beginning from John’s baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection.” So they nominated two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. Then they prayed, “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs.” Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles.

Most people are aware of the 12 Apostles who travelled with Jesus throughout His Ministry, but these verses remind us that there were others who were with Him for the duration of that time. Here we read of at least two. Matthias was added to the Apostles, but we don’t know what happened to Joseph Barabbas, and any others who likewise had followed Jesus. Does that mean their story is of no importance? Of course not! I’m sure they shared their stories and experiences with others and led them to know the resurrected Lord. Remember during His ministry we read that Jesus sent out 72 people to do miracles in His Name, and we only know the names of 12 of them. The other 60 would have plenty of stories to share.

We may never have a position of responsibility either in our daily life, or a place of authority in our Church Fellowships, but we do have a personal story worth telling, and we do have a responsibility to share it with others.

Dear Lord,

Thank You that You have given me a story to share. Help me to be obedient in sharing it for Your Glory. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
