4 November 2023 – What have I learned today?

Hebrews Chapter 5: Verse 11 (NIV)

We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand.

How do we react to justified advice or criticism? If we ask for advice, are we hoping that what we will hear will justify our decision, and support the action we want to take, or are we genuinely prepared to alter our plan on the basis that the advice we are given is right? That seems to be the theme of what I have been learning in the last few days, so perhaps I am not as open to this as I thought. The people to whom the letter of Hebrews was written, would seem to be fairly set in their ways and not prepared to take on board what was being taught, even though it was given under God’s anointing.

Some advice is difficult for us to hear, but if its right and proper we must remember it is being given with the best of intentions and usually for our good. Its easy to want to close our ears if it means a change of plan or direction.

God will never let us go down a wrong road if we are prepared to listen to His direction. That may come through prayer, reading the bible, or through a trusted family member, friend, colleague or pastor. Are we big enough to listen and respond?

Dear Lord,

Your plans are always for my good. You never thwart my plans or ideas for no reason. Help me to listen, even when You say no, and to seek to do what You want me to. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
