Colossians Chapter 1: Verses 9-12 (NLT)

So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding.  Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.

We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light.

Its such a necessary thing for us to pray for others and also for ourselves, but sometimes we’re not sure just what to pray for. I love these verses where Paul tells the Colossian church what he’s praying for on their behalf.

  • That they should know what God’s will for them is.
  • That God would give them wisdom and understanding so that they could honour the Lord with productive lives
  • That they would grow in their relationship with God
  • That God would give them strength and power to develop endurance and patience
  • That they would be filled with joy
  • That they would remember to thank God for all of His blessings.

What a great prayer to pray to ensure that they would lead the lives that God intended them to. But surely also a prayer we need to pray for those we love, and also for ourselves!

Dear Lord,

I do ask for the same things for my family and friends and also for me. These are surely the things that will make us into the people that You want us to be. So I ask for them I Jesus’ Name. Amen.
