5 January 2026 – What have I learned today?

Matthew chapter 5 verses 17-18 (NIV)

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

Jesus taught and proved that He was the complete fulfilment of the law and the prophets. He also taught that everything taught would stand until heaven and earth disappear. What does that mean for us?

I think it shows us that since Jesus is the fulfilment of the law, we must hold fast to all that He taught us. We cannot pick and choose the teaching that we like or disregard that which we find difficult.

He has made a way for us to have a full relationship with God the Father, and we have the Holy Spirit to direct and guide us, but we must accept that we have to hold fast to all Jesus teaches. It’s all or nothing. 99% following is not enough. Look what happened to King Saul. Also, Jesus gave Himself wholeheartedly for us. Why do we think we can do less than that for Him?

Dear Lord,

Even although the celebration of the birth of Jesus is over, these verses remind us, in Jesus’ own words, of the reason that He came, and what that means for us. In that light help me to be wholeheartedly committed to obey Your word, and reflecting the light of Jesus in my life. I ask this in His Name. Amen.
