5 March 2026 – What have I learned today?

Mark Chapter 12 verses 35-37 (NIV)

While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, he asked, “Why do the teachers of the law say that the Messiah is the son of David?  David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared:“‘The Lord said to my Lord:

“Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies

under your feet.”’David himself calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?”The large crowd listened to him with delight.

Prior to this paragraph, Jesus had once more been tested by someone in authority. The crowds who came to listen to Him took great delight in His responses, particularly when He challenged the religious leaders. At this point we read in the preceding verses that in fact, no one dared question Him any more.

But that got me thinking about how many of that large crowd would act on what they heard that day. Some certainly would. Others would simply be entertained by what they heard. Taking things a little further, we too can be guilty of taking delight in a “good” meeting. But the most important thing is that we respond to what God said in that good meeting. Otherwise, if we don’t, we too are simply being entertained.

Dear Lord,

Thank You for the fact that You want to reveal Yourself more to us. When I come to Your house, I pray that my heart will be responsive, and not simply be entertained. You are a holy God. I pray in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
