6 February 2024 – What have I learned today?

Matthew Chapter 24: Verses 36-39 (NLT)

However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.

“When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah’s day.  In those days before the flood, the people were enjoying banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat. People didn’t realize what was going to happen until the flood came and swept them all away. That is the way it will be when the Son of Man comes.

Modern day society has, in my opinion, has developed a sense of entitlement. We teach our young people that they have the right to do and know things as they please. But when things don’t go as we expect them to, and there is a sense of disappointment in not getting what we expected, how do we react?

Sometimes, especially when we are going through difficult times, we may ask why God is allowing this. He may, in His grace, sometimes tell us why, but He doesn’t have to. And if He doesn’t, we don’t have the right to throw a hissy fit. In teaching the disciples about the end times, I was struck by the fact that even Jesus didn’t know exactly when His final return will be, and He is the Son of God. When the Father says the time is now, then He will come. Jesus never demanded status and honour, He put it all aside to come and live among us. He was obedient on earth, and still will only return when the Father says so. What then makes us think we have the right to know everything. We need to learn to follow Christ’s example and be submissive to God’s will. As we say in yesterday’s verses, we can trust that the Father knows exactly what He is doing.

Dear Lord,

Help me to have the faith to accept that You don’t need to explain everything to me. Help me to be submissive to Your plans and ways, just as Jesus Himself showed us. I ask in His Name. Amen.
