6 January 2023 – What have I learned today?

Genesis Chapter 11: verse 31 – Genesis Chapter 12: verse 1 (NLT Version)

One day Terah took his son Abram, his daughter-in-law Sarai (his son Abram’s wife), and his grandson Lot (his son Haran’s child), and moved away from Ur of the Chaldeans. He was headed for the land of Canaan, but they stopped at Harran and settled there. Terah lived for 205 years and died while still in Harran.

The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you.”

We don’t know why Terah took his family on the journey to Canaan, or what made the family break their journey in Harran. But they settled there and Terah never made it to Canaan. Then God spoke to Abram and instructed him to move on and Abram obeyed.

Sometimes it seems as though our plans are put on hold, and we might even feel settled where we are at. But if the time comes when there’s a nudge in our spirit from God that tells us it’s time to move on, then we need to be as obedient as Abram. And that can be hard if we are at a point in our life where we feel comfortable and settled.

But God had plans for Abram, and He has plans for us too. We would be wise then to take a deep breath if we need to and move on. We’re not going by ourselves.

Dear God,

Thank you for the plans you have for me. You know best when I need to wait and when I need to move. Help me to be obedient in your direction.

I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
