John Chapter 4: Verses 49-50 (NIV)
The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”
“Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.”
The man took Jesus at his word and departed.
The Royal official who came to Jesus on behalf of his son would be expected in his working life to obedient to all that the King asked of him without question. At King Charles’ coronation today, there were many soldiers and other officials expected to carry out orders without question. When Jesus told the royal official to go home because his son would live, the man took Jesus at His word and did just that.
Jesus never speaks empty words. He spoke with authority which the royal official recognised. Jesus’ words can be trusted, but we need to be like that Royal Official – to take Jesus at His word and then do what He tells us.
Dear Lord,
Thank You that Jesus speaks with authority and can be trusted. Help me to be obedient to what You say. May I never be guilty of speaking empty words that can’t be trusted. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
