Matthew chapter 6 verse 1 (NIV)
“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.”
Bit of a recurring theme here so I better pay attention. Jesus warns about the danger of showing off – even the good things we do should be done discreetly and without fuss. If our motives for such actions are right then this shouldn’t cause us any problem, after the only one that we should be trying to please is our Father in Heaven who sees all that we do.
But with so much of life lived out these days on social media, we need to be careful about what we share and why. If we feel the need to post for attention or ‘likes’ then perhaps the motives for our good deeds aren’t as pure as we think. This is something we need to set a good example on for our young people in the church, so let’s try and keep somethings between ourselves and God. He will not miss anything that we do on His behalf or in His Name, so it doesn’t matter if no one else notices.
Dear Lord,
Help me to show our young people that an on-line presence isn’t the most important thing. It’s doing what You want and following Jesus’ example. So help me to do thar. I pray in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
