7 November 2024 – What have I learned today?

Proverbs Chapter 27: verse 12 (NIV)

The prudent see danger and take refuge,

but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.

Romans chapter 8: verse 6 (NIV)

The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

Sometimes we set our minds on a course of action and we plough on with that plan with blinkers on. God will use different means to grab our attention if our plans are not what He intends for us. That may be through our conscience, sometimes that may be through the advice of others, and at other times, its that niggle in our spirit that is cautioning us to be aware. The choice on whether to pay heed to any of these means of direction is ours, and how often have we found that by ignoring them we find that we have no peace or have lost the joy and anticipation of proceeding.

If we saw someone in danger on the other side of the street, or a child about to run out in the road, we would most certainly do whatever we could to avert an accident or worse. As a loving Heavenly Father, God, through His Holy Spirit in our lives will most certainly do no less. And we ignore such warnings at our peril.

Dear Lord,

Help me to be prudent as the writer of Proverbs says, and to listen to the direction that You send in whatever way it comes. May I never ignore the prompting and guidance of the Holy Spirit, who has been sent to be my teacher, counsellor and helper. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
