Colossians chapter 3 verses 1- 2 (NIV)
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
There is a saying that “home is where the heart is.” We also often hear about someone setting their heart on something, and that got me thinking about these verses. They are actually the first verses that I really felt the Lord put on my heart as a young Christian. I think now, as a more mature one, I understand a bit more why. If we don’t kee our focus on the things of God, it’s so easy to be distracted and get caught up with other things. That’s why I think Paul tells us to actively set our hearts on Godly things. It requires determination and effort to do so.
Dear Lord,
Help me to exercise that determination and effort to set my heart and mind on the right things. I ask in Jesus’ Name. AMEN.
