psalm 106 verse 13 (NIV)
But they soon forgot what he had done
and did not wait for his plan to unfold.
The people of Israel saw many miracles and Godly interventions on their behalf. God made many promises and shared His plans and intentions for His chosen people. But He did not give them a time line, so if the people didn’t see the fulfilment of those promises as quickly as they expected they quickly forgot all God had done for them. They became impatient and, all to often, took matters into their own hands.
But it strikes me that in this age of instant results, many of us are just the same. How quickly do we move on and forget the many blessings and interventions God has provided for us? How impatient are we when God’s gracious promises appear to be taking too long to be outworked?
In this fast paced generation let’s remember to make time to praise God for His goodness, and to be like Jesus’ mother, Mary who kept all God’s promises about her son treasured in her heart and pondered on them often. If we do this it will stop us from becoming frustrated and impatient since it keeps us focused on the goodness of God.
Dear Lord,
I’m reminded of the worship song “Goodness of God” , which says in its chorus “all my life You have been faithful, all my life You have been so, so good. With every breath that I am able, I will sing of the goodness of God.” May I indeed be faithful in doing so. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
