8 February 2023 – What have I learned today?
Exodus Chapter 1: Verse 17 (NLT Translation)
But because the midwives feared God, they refused to obey the king’s orders. They allowed the boys to live, too.
I wonder how many families could trace their line back to the baby boys saved by the brave midwives who feared God more than they were afraid of Pharaoh? Its right to be obedient to those who have power and authority over us, if the laws are fair and just and don’t conflict with God’s law. I wonder if I would be brave enough to follow the example of these women?
As the principles, guidance and law laid out in the Bible become less popular with some areas of modern society, Christians who hold to God’s law may have to make that choice. God sees our obedience to Him. In Exodus chapter 1 verse 20, it is recorded that God was good to the midwives. Whenever we take a stand that honours God, whether it’s a high profile stand or not, God notices every one and will not forget it.
Dear Lord,
May I be as courageous and obedient in following Your ways as those Hebrew midwives, even if my knees are knocking and my voice is shaking.
