8 May 2026 – What have I learned today?

Judges chapter 8 verses 22-23 (NIV)

The Israelites said to Gideon, “Rule over us—you, your son and your grandson—because you have saved us from the hand of Midian.” But Gideon told them, “I will not rule over you, nor will my son rule over you. The LORD will rule over you.

In response to the victory over the Midianites, the people wanted Gideon to rule over them. They had put him on a pedestal. They had already forgotten the true source of their victory – God. But Gideon put them straight. He was simply an instrument in God’s hands.

It is a blessing to be used as an instrument in God’s hands. But we need to be careful not to lose sight of who it is who really deserves the praise. Just as easily we also need to be careful not to put anyone else on a pedestal. They are just human too.

Dear Lord,

Thank You for allowing us to be vessels in Your hands. Help me never to forget to give all the praise and glory back to You. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
