1 Chronicles 28: 19-20 (NIV)
“All this,” David said, “I have in writing as a result of the Lord’s hand on me, and he enabled me to understand all the details of the plan.” David also said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the Lord is finished.
1 Chronicles 29:3 (NIV)
“Besides, in my devotion to the temple of my God I now give my personal treasures of gold and silver for the temple of my God, over and above everything I have provided for this holy temple”
If God wants to use us to do something, we need never panic about how to do it, or worry that we won’t get it right. Although it was David’s son, Solomon, who would oversee the physical building of the Temple, it was to David that God outlined the specific plans. David then made sure that Solomon and all the people knew what those plans were. And Solomon ensured that the plans were executed perfectly and faithfully for God’s glory. God will give us the instruction and guidance that we need too, if we are prepared to listen and take note.
David had collected the resources needed to make sure that the projects could go ahead, but he was also prepared to contribute generously from his own personal funds as well. God will ensure that we have all the resources we need, whatever those are, if there is a work He needs us to do, but we should also be prepared to follow David’s example and be willing to give our time, talent and resources as God requires. David led by example and we see in Chapter 29 that the people followed his example, and gave freely to the work.
If we are open and generous with what God has given us, others will follow our example, and since God has been so kind and generous to us, should we not also be prepared and willing to do as He asks?
Dear Lord,
I’m grateful that You never leave us uncertain about what You want us to do, and willingly share with us Your plans and directions. Help me to pay attention to Your directions and also to be willing to contribute willingly what I can to ensure that Your work is done according to Your plans. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
