9 February 2023 – What have I learned today?

Exodus Chapter 5: Verses 2-3 (NLT Version)

“Is that so?” retorted Pharaoh. “And who is the LORD? Why should I listen to him and let Israel go?  I don’t know the LORD and I will not let Israel go.”

But Moses and Aaron persisted. “The God of the Hebrews has met with us,” they declared. “So let us take a three-day journey into the wilderness so we can offer sacrifices to the LORD our God. If we don’t, he will us with a plague or with the sword.”

Pharaoh had no concept of who God was. In the eyes of his own subjects, he was himself like a god. So he did not feel he had to make any provision for God’s people, Israel. Moses and Aaron persisted in speaking to Pharaoh because they, on the other hand, had met with God.

When Christians speak to others about their faith, its natural for those who don’t share it to say, “I don’t know God, why should I listen to Him?” For those of us who have chosen to enter into that relationship with God through Jesus, that’s why our testimony is so important. But the way that we live is just as important as what we say, in fact more so. We may be the only example of a Christian someone has come across. Are we being a faithful and good ambassador of Jesus?

As the record of the exodus unfolds we will see that God uses Aaron and Moses to speak to Pharaoh and his officials, not just in what they say but in what He does through them. And He still wants to move through His followers today.

Dear LORD,

I’m not always as persistent as I should be when it comes to speaking up for You. Help me to change that and allow You to use me to show others what a great and wonderful God You are.

I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
