9 February 2025 – What have I learned today?

Exodus chapter 4:10-12 (NIV)

Moses said to the LORD, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” The LORD said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”

2 Corinthians Chapter 12 verses 9-10 (NIV)

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Moses didn’t think he was the right person for the role God had assigned to him. He told God why, in his opinion, he was unsuitable. God didn’t need to be told. He knew all about Moses and all of his perceived weaknesses. God promises Moses that He will help Moses in all of the ways Moses feels deficient. In other words, God will prove Himself by moving through Moses in the very areas where he feels weakest. However, in subsequent verses Moses continues to make excuses and God graciously allows Aaron, Moses’ brother to be his spokesman.

We don’t need a spokesman or assistant; we need to trust God. God doesn’t need to be reminded about our weaknesses, He knows us inside out. He wants to use us in spite of our weaknesses, whatever they are, because it will strengthen our faith and allow people to see God working through us in spite of ourselves.

Dear Lord,

Thank You that any weaknesses I see in myself are not an obstacle for any work You want me to do, because just as You promised Moses, You will teach me and help me. Thank You that’s why You sent the Holy Spirit to guide and direct. I need to trust Him and stop making excuses, so help me to do so. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
