Proverbs Chapter 31 – verse 31 (NLT)
Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last;
but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.
It’s the time of year when we ponder whether to make any new year resolutions. We might want to lose weight and get fitter or healthier. We might look at doing a bit of self-improvement. Those resolutions don’t always make it to the end of the year. (I am grateful however that the blog I started at the start of the year has made it though, and I hope it will carry on a while yet.) Most of the time if those resolutions are not kept it doesn’t always make too much difference to us – a bit like beauty and charm perhaps?
But the thing that will make the greatest difference in our lives is to resolve to fear the Lord (as in the sense of respect and honour.) That will make such a impact on us no matter what the year ahead may hold. And it will impact the people who cross our path as well.
Dear Lord,
You never make a great list of things that You expect from us. You know our frailty too well. Help me however to keep my resolve to fear and follow You wholeheartedly in the year that lies ahead. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
