Proverbs Chapter 3: Verses 5-6 (NIV-UK)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
A wise saying indeed from King Solomon. Its easy to try and work out our plans and circumstances and ask God to make them come to fruition. However, that’s not what we are supposed to do. We are meant to trust the Lord and not try to work things out, even when we don’t understand how and why we are in the circumstances we find ourselves in. Children don’t always understand why their parents
Direct them in the way they do, but they are much more trusting than we are as adults. Perhaps that’s why Jesus said we should become like little children.
The most important lesson is verse six. We are not asking God to help us with our plans, we are meant to submit to His. If we do, He will indeed work everything out for us. Submission is not a popular concept in our modern-day world, but submission to God is an important biblical principle, and accepting it as such means we are indeed learning wisdom as King Solomon intended.
Dear Lord,
Help me to do as Solomon bids us to, even when I don’t understand why. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
