3 February 2024 – What have I learned today?

Matthew Chapter 22: Verse 29 (NLT)

Jesus replied, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.

2 Timothy Chapter 2: Verse 16 (NLT)

Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.

The Sadducees tried to catch Jesus out, but He explained to them that they had taken the scriptures out of context and thus they hadn’t experienced the truth and power of God. Paul too counselled Timothy of the need to understand the scriptures and teach others.

Sometimes people who have perhaps heard or even read some parts o the bible will quote it, and even sometimes misquote it, to suit the point they want to make. Jesus recognised this and pointed out their error to those who challenged Him. People might try and do the same to us. That’s why we need to make the time and effort to read our bibles and ask God for the wisdom to understand it. Its also why Home Groups and Bible studies are good to encourage us to learn and understand, We never need to work it out for ourselves and we can always ask the Holy Spirit to help us.

Dear Lord,

Thank You for the open access we have to be able to study Your bible whilst some are denied this. Help me then never to neglect to read it and to learn, and to pass on what I have learned when the opportunity arises. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
